Things to do

The chief attraction in the area is the Taktsang Goemba Monastery also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Situated at 10,000 feet, it makes for an arduous trek that goes steep uphill. There are donkeys and ponies available to take you up to the halfway mark, but after that, the trail is accessible only by foot. If you are not inclined to trek up, then you could enjoy the views of the monastery from the comfort of the resort. You could also wander up to the trailhead where a crafts market can be found.

The Chele La Pass is yet another attraction in Paro being the highest road pass in the country. It is a great spot for some mountain biking and also affords spectacular views of Bhutan’s most sacred peak Mt. Jumolhari as well as Jichu Drake. Rinpung Dzong which is a large Buddhist monastery and fortress now houses the administrative offices of the district is an imposing structure worth a visit as also Kyichu Lhakhang which is considered one of the country’s oldest temples. The National Museum, Tachogang Lhakhang Bridge, Dzongdrakha Temple, and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche Memorial House are some other attractions in Paro.
