Madikeri (also known as Coorg) needs no formal introduction. Its verdant valleys and biodiversity have been attracting visitors from all over the world since a long time. The vast plantations that spread as far as the eye can see engulf the rolling hills in a green carpet cover. Acres of coffee, vanilla, cardamom, and pepper plantations thrive under the shade of rainforests. These rainforests are home to some of the most beautiful, and some rare, species of plants and animals. Being in Coorg is akin to being one with nature in all its glory. In the middle of nature’s bounty are the Eco-Friendly Cottages at Madikeri, which hosts people from all walks of life.

 Located on an organic spice farm in the rainforests of the breathtaking Western Ghats, the property couldn’t get any more scenic. A crystal clear stream meanders through the property, with wooden bridges for you to cross them. Adding to the idyllic charm of the place is the eco-friendly construction of the cottages. The Eco-Friendly Cottages at Madikeri is run on solar energy and bio gas is the primary source of fuel used here. When you spend a holiday here, nature pampers you and you preserve nature in return. Isn’t it the finest form of sustainable tourism?

 The Eco-Friendly Cottages at Madikeri offer accommodation in the two Deluxe Guesthouses, the Plantation Cottage, and tents, all powered by solar lighting. Each of the Deluxe Guesthouses has two spacious, independent bedrooms with an attached bathroom. The bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub and have a continuous supply of hot water. The rustic Plantation Cottage has two independent rooms, each furnished with a fireplace and an attached bathroom. There are two tents on the property, overlooking a valley dotted with cardamom plantations and a variety of fruit trees. They are furnished with basic furniture and comfortable beds. They can accommodate two or three people. For long-term rental, you can book the Faraway Cottage. It is an isolated, self-service cottage with kitchen facilities and western bathroom. No matter what type of room you choose to stay in, one thing is clear – the luxury you experience in the lap of nature cannot be fathomed!

Coorg is nature lover’s paradise. You can take a guided tour or go on one of the many treks or nature walks in the plantations around the property. On these walks, you learn about the different organic cultivation methods used to grow coffee, vanilla, pepper, and cardamom. You also have a chance to learn about the many medicinal plants that abound in the region.

If you are a trekking enthusiast, you can choose a half-day or full-day trek to explore the rich biodiversity of the region. Based on your fitness level, you can either choose a leisurely walk or a tough trek. If you’re a birdwatcher, this trip will make you feel you’re in seventh heaven. There are over 100 species of colorful birds that keep visiting the region from time to time.

If you’re willing to go a little further from the property, you can take a half-day or full-day tour to the Dubare Elephant Camp or the Buddhist Monastery at Kushalnagar, or both. The elephant camp is a haven for those who want to see these playful creatures in their natural habitat. You can bathe and feed the friendly tuskers too. The monastery at the Tibetan settlement in Kushalnagar features large Buddha statues and intricate paintings.
