Things to do

When you’re not sitting on your room’s verandah admiring nature or listening to the harmonious songs of birds, you can take a plunge in the resort’s swimming pool. Let the cool water of the pool wash off the last bit of stress that might be hiding somewhere in your muscles. You can also participate in the morning ritual of drawing a kolam or rangoli, which is a traditional art form of drawing elaborate designs or geometric patterns on the floor and filling them up with colored powder or flower petals. Making flower garlands and participating in the traditional stick dance are some of the other things you can do at the resort.

Classes for learning how to drape a sari or wear a dhoti, traditional Indian garments for women and men respectively are arranged for you. If trying to tackle the five- or nine-yard cloth tired you out, sit back and enjoy the rest of the day listening to the melodious tunes of musical instruments played by skilled musicians.

The culinary program under the guidance of expert chefs is an experience of a lifetime. Not only will you take home the art of cooking authentic Chettinad cuisine, but this 2-3 day program will also make you nostalgic every time you enter your kitchen. When you participate in this program, you can go to the local market with the chef and get a hands-on experience of picking the right ingredients and learning the tricks of the trade.

If you want to explore the life outside the resort, you can go on excursions to visit the nearby temples or local artisans’ workshops. You can also go on a guided tour of the Chettinad Heritage Zone where you can see tile units and understand how handmade tiles are designed. Or how about a bullock cart ride away from the humdrum of city life?
