Things to do

The quintessential activity to indulge in at this home stay is to participate in a Tibetan art workshop. Thangka paintings, Thangka appliqué work, Tibetan statue-making, wood carving, wood painting, tailoring, and weaving are age old traditional treasures of the Tibetan community and these crafts are taught to Tibetans-in-exile.

Go down to the town of Palampur which is every bit rewarding due to the spectacular sights offered by the Dhauladar mountain ranges and the verdant forests of the Kangra Valley. Halt at Baijnath Temple where the chants and temple bells ringing in the background will lighten the heart of every traveler. At Tashi Jong, one of the first Tibetan settlements in India, watching the traditional Tibetan art of carpet weaving is a remarkable experience. As you savour a lip-smacking lunch, breath in the opulence of Taragarh Palace which was the summer residence of the royal family of Jammu and Kashmir but is now an estate hotel. The Dongyu Gatsal Ling nunnery is also close by.

The homestay can provide well-informed guides to assist you on a fascinating monastery tour to Gyuto Upper Tantric College and Dolmaling Nunnery to open your world to the rich culture of Tibetan Buddhist monks. The Gyuto monks are world-renowned for their chanting and were nominated for the Grammy Award for their mesmerizing chants.

Another remarkable trip that could be arranged is to the Kangra Valley, which was once home to many kingdoms, including the Trigartha Kingdom, mentioned in the Mahabharata. The Kangra Fort is a mighty structure built by the Katoch Dynasty which is believed to be the world’s oldest surviving royal lineage and is believed to have descended from the Trigartha. The scenic charisma of the Kangra region is divine as the yellow mustard flowers, golden wheat fields, and green paddy fields smear the earth with vibrant colours. The Kangra tour culminates with a visit to the Vajreshwari Temple and proffers travelers with a pious experience.

Trips can also be conducted to the monolithic temple complex at Masroor. The entire complex was carved from a single rock and is believed to have been constructed between the 6th and 8th century. The water body in front of the temple showcases a stunning reflection of the temple complex. A climb to the top of the temple will leave you with a panoramic view of the magnificent snow covered Dhauladar range. The last destination for this trip is the hot spring at Tatwani which is believed to have medicinal powers.
